Plant care tips

Caring for your new house plants

  • Carefully unpack your plants and give them a drink.
  • Display your plants in a light, bright position but out of direct sunlight.
  • Temperatures between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius are ideal.
  • Take good care of your new plant, they should not be allowed to dry out completely, equally they should not be waterlogged.
  • Remove any damaged or spent flowers and foliage as they appear.
  • Be cautious some plants are toxic and harmful to animals or humans if consumed, they can cause skin or eye irritation. Lily’s are especially toxic for cats and may stain fabric.
  • Protect surfaces before watering plants as staining may occur from water damaged.
  • Some house plant varieties benefit from regular water spritzing to keep their leaves moist.

Caring for your new garden peonies
When your plant arrives, open the box and remove your new peony plant. Peonies and indeed all plants need light to survive, take your peony plant out and unwrap from all packaging. Give your peony a little drink of water. It is best to plant your peony in the ground or your chosen container as soon as possible once arrived. Please note all plants left in the box after delivery cannot be returned or replaced.

What to do once you are ready to plant your peony? Our top 5 tips below.

  • Plant in a sunny or part-shaded sheltered position in any free-draining soil.
  • Don’t plant your herbaceous or intersectional peony too deep – ensure the crown is no more than 25mm to 50mm below the surface.
  • Feed your peony once a year in the Spring, Summer or Autumn.
  • Cut back herbaceous and intersectional peonies in the Autumn once the leaves have turned brown; remember Tree peonies respond well to pruning to keep them under control.
  • Water your peony consistently while buds are forming in the Spring but take care not to over water as peonies don’t like having wet ‘feet’ or roots.
